Across Sir Gaerfyrddin, our local leisure centres, community halls, sports clubs, and regional arts venues play a vital role in keeping our communities active and connected. Yet, as the Welsh Government opens its national culture and sport consultation, many local venues face severe financial pressures.
Rising energy bills and reduced municipal budgets threaten the future of services that local families rely on every week.
Redressing the Capital-Rural Funding Imbalance
For too long, cultural and sporting grants have been heavily skewed toward major national bodies in South East Wales. While national institutions serve an important purpose, rural counties like Carmarthenshire must not be treated as an afterthought.
Our regional theatres, local sports pitches, and historic heritage sites deserve equal access to capital funding to upgrade facilities and maintain affordable access for local residents.
Practical Support for Yr Iaith Gymraeg
In Sir Gaerfyrddin, the Welsh language is a living, everyday part of community life. Sustaining Yr Iaith Gymraeg requires practical support for grassroots activities, youth sports coaching, local drama groups, and social events, rather than top-down bureaucratic compliance targets.
I will be raising these key issues in the Senedd Culture Committee to ensure rural West Wales receives the funding and recognition it deserves.
