Over the past week, my office has received a moving wave of heartfelt messages from local people in Bancffosfelen. People are genuinely heartbroken at the prospect of losing their local school, the true anchor of village life.
A thriving primary school with a full nursery is not something a community should ever have to fight to keep.
While Carmarthenshire County Council pushes ahead with centralisation, the logistical reality is deeply flawed. Forcing young children off safe walking routes and onto narrow valley roads directly contradicts active travel commitments.
Furthermore, pushing families into mandatory car journeys during a cost-of-living squeeze adds an unfair financial penalty to hardworking households.
I am pressing the Welsh Government and local authority to listen to these passionate community appeals.
We must protect frontline rural infrastructure and support local families.
